Our Aims and Objectives
The role of a Headteacher is an extremely complicated one that demands a great deal of time, effort and skill in order to be successful. It is recognised by the Local Authority that Headteachers need a support service available, which has their well-being, professional development and success as its main focus.
The Aims and objectives of the service are:
- To work in conjunction with other agencies / colleagues within the LA to promote positive working practices which recognise and acknowledge the workload of Headteachers;
- To provide a confidential* service for all Headteachers and Acting Headteachers in the Primary School sector which provides them with a listening ear and opportunity to discuss issues that are causing them concern;
- To promote the role of Headship in a positive manner for both existing and aspiring Headteachers;
- To work closely with colleagues within the LA to support and promote the Remodelling Agenda, Work/Life balance and Dedicated Headship Time;
- To share ‘good practice’ gained through dialogue with Headteachers;
- To ensure individuals contacting the service feel less isolated and vulnerable;
- To help alleviate work related stress and to address issues that may lead to absence;
- To analyse issues and concerns; highlighting areas for development to the LA.
Confidentiality*
Headteachers can be guaranteed absolute discretion and confidentiality except where disclosures relate to:
- Issues regarding child protection;
- Criminal offences e.g. fraud;
- Where there are concerns that the individual will cause serious physical harm to others or themselves, or have harm caused to him/her;
- Where confidentiality is waived, the Headteacher will be informed and the agency to which the matter is being reported will be named. The Headteacher will be kept informed as to progress with the matter as far as is possible within the knowledge and remit of the LA.
